You are just a bad one.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"7\">If you have ever planned a wedding, moved houses, or tried to lose 20lbs, you were managing a project. If those things were stressful, over-budget, and chaotic, it\u2019s because you lack the <b data-path-to-node=\"7\" data-index-in-node=\"187\">Toolkit<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8\"><b data-path-to-node=\"8\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Two Modes of Life<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8\">Every action you take falls into two buckets:<\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\" data-path-to-node=\"9\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"9,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Operations (The Circle):<\/b> Recurring tasks to maintain the status quo. (e.g., Answering emails, paying bills, laundry, commuting).<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"9,0,1\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9,0,1,0,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"9,0,1,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Goal:<\/i> Survival.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9,0,1,1,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"9,0,1,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Trajectory:<\/i> Nowhere. It is a loop.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"9,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Projects (The Vector):<\/b> A temporary endeavor to create a unique result. (e.g., Launching a podcast, building a house, getting a degree).<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"9,1,1\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9,1,1,0,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"9,1,1,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Goal:<\/i> Transformation.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9,1,1,1,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"9,1,1,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Trajectory:<\/i> Point A to Point B.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\"><b data-path-to-node=\"10\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Trap:<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\">Most people spend 99% of their energy on <b data-path-to-node=\"10\" data-index-in-node=\"51\">Operations<\/b>. They are &#8220;busy&#8221; keeping the lights on, but they are not moving forward. To change your life (Status, Wealth, Health), you must execute a <b data-path-to-node=\"10\" data-index-in-node=\"200\">Project<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11\"><b data-path-to-node=\"11\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Universal PM Toolkit<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11\">You don&#8217;t need a PMP certification. You need these 3 laws:<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12\"><b data-path-to-node=\"12\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">1. The Triangle of Constraints (Scope, Time, Cost)<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12\">You cannot have it all.<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"13\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13,0,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"13,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Example:<\/i> You want to launch a website (Project).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13,1,0\">If you want it <b data-path-to-node=\"13,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"15\">Fast<\/b> (Time) and <b data-path-to-node=\"13,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"31\">Cheap<\/b> (Cost), the <b data-path-to-node=\"13,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"49\">Scope<\/b> must be tiny (One page).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13,2,0\">If you want it <b data-path-to-node=\"13,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"15\">Big<\/b> (Scope) and <b data-path-to-node=\"13,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"31\">Cheap<\/b> (Cost), the <b data-path-to-node=\"13,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"49\">Time<\/b> will be forever.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13,3,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"13,3,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Rule:<\/i> Pick two. Accept the third.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14\"><b data-path-to-node=\"14\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">2. The Definition of Done<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14\">Projects fail because nobody knows when they are finished.<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"15\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"15,0,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"15,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Bad Goal:<\/i> &#8220;Get in shape.&#8221; (This is a wish).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"15,1,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"15,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Project Goal:<\/i> &#8220;Reach 15% body fat by Dec 31st.&#8221; (This is a measurable target).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"16\"><b data-path-to-node=\"16\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">3. The Breakdown Structure<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"16\">A Project is a monster. You cannot fight a monster. You can fight 100 small lizards.<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"17\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"17,0,0\">Break &#8220;Write a Book&#8221; -&gt; &#8220;Write Chapter 1&#8221; -&gt; &#8220;Write 500 words.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"17,1,0\">If a task takes longer than 4 hours, break it down further.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"18\"><b data-path-to-node=\"18\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">#DhandheKaFunda:<\/b> <i data-path-to-node=\"18\" data-index-in-node=\"17\">Operations keep you alive. Projects make a life worth living.
