They don&#8217;t need meetings. They don&#8217;t need supervision. If you add <i data-path-to-node=\"7\" data-index-in-node=\"161\">one<\/i> B-Player (Competent, but needs direction\/checking) to this team, you don&#8217;t just lower the average. You destroy the system.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8\"><b data-path-to-node=\"8\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Steve Jobs Principle<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8\">Steve Jobs famously said: <i data-path-to-node=\"8\" data-index-in-node=\"51\">&#8220;A-Players like to work with A-Players. If you hire a B-Player, they start hiring C-Players. The Bozo Explosion happens.&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9\"><b data-path-to-node=\"9\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The 3 Costs of the B-Player<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\"><b data-path-to-node=\"10\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">1. The Supervision Tax<\/b> A-Players solve problems. B-Players create &#8220;questions.&#8221; If your A-Player has to stop their deep work to explain something to the B-Player for the third time, you have turned a Ferrari into a school bus.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11\"><b data-path-to-node=\"11\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">2. The Morale Leak<\/b> Nothing frustrates a high-performer more than seeing a mediocre performer get the same paycheck. It signals: <i data-path-to-node=\"11\" data-index-in-node=\"128\">&#8220;Excellence is not required here.&#8221;<\/i> The moment that signal is sent, the A-Player updates their LinkedIn profile.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12\"><b data-path-to-node=\"12\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">3. The Speed Limit<\/b> A convoy moves at the speed of the slowest truck. If you have 4 Cheetahs and 1 Turtle, you don&#8217;t have a pack of Cheetahs. You have a parade led by a Turtle.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13\"><b data-path-to-node=\"13\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Protocol: Hire for Slope, Fire for Drag<\/b><\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\" data-path-to-node=\"14\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"14,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The &#8220;Hell Yes&#8221; Hiring Rule:<\/b> When debriefing an interview, if the answer isn&#8217;t &#8220;Hell Yes,&#8221; it is &#8220;No.&#8221; &#8220;Maybe&#8221; is &#8220;No.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"14,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Probation Cliff:<\/b> You know within 2 weeks if someone is an A-Player. If you have doubts at 2 weeks, fire them. Do not wait for the 90-day review.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14,2,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"14,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Keeper Test:<\/b> (From Netflix) &#8220;If this person told me they were leaving for a competitor, would I fight hard to keep them?&#8221;<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"14,2,1\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14,2,1,0,0\">If the answer is No&#8230; give them a severance package today.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"15\"><b data-path-to-node=\"15\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">#DhandheKaFunda:<\/b> <i data-path-to-node=\"15\" data-index-in-node=\"17\">You are not building a family; you are building a sports team.
