We are wired to value <i data-path-to-node=\"6\" data-index-in-node=\"218\">Effort<\/i> (Input) over <i data-path-to-node=\"6\" data-index-in-node=\"238\">Result<\/i> (Output).<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"7\"><b data-path-to-node=\"7\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Factory vs. The Studio<\/b><\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"8\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"8,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">In a Factory:<\/b> Input = Output. If you stand at the assembly line for 8 hours, you make 8 widgets. Time is a proxy for value.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"8,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">In a Studio (Knowledge Work):<\/b> Input <span class=\"math-inline\" data-math=\"\\neq\" data-index-in-node=\"36\"><span class=\"katex\"><span class=\"katex-html\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><span class=\"base\"><span class=\"mrel\"><span class=\"mord vbox\"><span class=\"thinbox\"><span class=\"rlap\"><span class=\"inner\"><span class=\"mord\">\ue020<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>=<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> Output. You can stare at a screen for 10 hours and produce zero value. You can have a 5-minute epiphany in the shower that generates $1M.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9\"><b data-path-to-node=\"9\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Dangerous Metric<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9\">Most companies are run by Factory Managers pretending to run Studios. They track &#8220;Hours,&#8221; &#8220;Login Times,&#8221; and &#8220;Butts in Seats.&#8221; They reward the employee who stays late (The Martyr) and punish the employee who leaves early because they finished the work (The Professional).<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\"><b data-path-to-node=\"10\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Protocol: Decouple Your Value<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\">If you want to be wealthy, you must break the link between Time and Money.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\" data-path-to-node=\"11\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"11,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Stop Selling Time:<\/b> Never bill by the hour. Bill by the <i data-path-to-node=\"11,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"55\">Project<\/i> or the <i data-path-to-node=\"11,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"70\">Outcome<\/i>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"11,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Hide Your Speed:<\/b> If you are fast, do not show it immediately. If you deliver a 2-day project in 2 hours, the client will think it was &#8220;easy&#8221; and demand a discount. Deliver it in 1 day. Use the spare time to build your own assets.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11,2,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"11,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Result is the Only Truth:<\/b> Did the revenue go up? Did the code work? Did the deal close? Everything else is theater.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12\"><b data-path-to-node=\"12\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">#DhandheKaFunda:<\/b> <i data-path-to-node=\"12\" data-index-in-node=\"17\">The market pays for the baby, not the labor pains.
