It happens when a team member believes that completing a task is the same as achieving an outcome.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8\">When you say, <i data-path-to-node=\"8\" data-index-in-node=\"14\">&#8220;I sent the email, so my job is done,&#8221;<\/i> you are treating the business like a bureaucracy. A Sovereign Architect treats the business like a mission. The goal isn&#8217;t to &#8220;send the email&#8221;; the goal is to <b data-path-to-node=\"8\" data-index-in-node=\"212\">maintain the partnership<\/b>.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"9\">The Anatomy of the Delta<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\">The &#8220;Ownership Delta&#8221; is the space between what your contract requires and what the situation demands. This is where all the real value in a business is created.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11\"><b data-path-to-node=\"11\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Renter Approach (Low Agency):<\/b><\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"12\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"12,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Situation:<\/b> A deadline will be missed.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"12,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Action:<\/b> Sends a cold email 3 days before because the contract says so.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12,2,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"12,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Result:<\/b> The customer feels managed, not valued. Trust erodes.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13\"><b data-path-to-node=\"13\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Sovereign Approach (High Agency):<\/b><\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"14\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"14,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Situation:<\/b> A deadline will be missed.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"14,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Action:<\/b> Picks up the phone. Explains the &#8220;Why.&#8221; Presents a redefined milestone and a plan to mitigate the delay.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14,2,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"14,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Result:<\/b> The customer feels like a partner. Trust is strengthened through transparency.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"15\">Breaking the Policy Barrier<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"16\">Renters use &#8220;Company Policy&#8221; as a shield to avoid the discomfort of problem-solving. Owners use &#8220;Company Policy&#8221; as a baseline to be negotiated in favor of the mission.<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"17\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"17,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"17,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Renter:<\/b> &#8220;HR says no work-from-home. Sorry.&#8221; (Job done).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"17,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"17,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Owner:<\/b> &#8220;The policy is rigid, but the talent is vital. How do we create a win-win that protects the organization and supports the person?&#8221; (Mission done).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"18\">The Protocol: Moving Beyond the Description<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"19\">To close the Ownership Delta, you must ask three questions before you &#8220;close&#8221; any task:<\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\" data-path-to-node=\"20\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"20,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"20,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Outcome Check:<\/b> Did the outcome I desire actually happen, or did I just perform the activity associated with it?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"20,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"20,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Friction Check:<\/b> Did my action remove friction for the other person, or did I just pass the friction to them?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"20,2,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"20,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Value-Add Check:<\/b> What is the one thing I can do here that isn&#8217;t in my job description but would make this situation significantly better?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"21\"><b data-path-to-node=\"21\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">#DhandheKaFunda:<\/b> <i data-path-to-node=\"21\" data-index-in-node=\"17\">A job description is a floor, not a ceiling. If you only do what you are told, you are a cost center.
