To save energy, it constantly guesses what will happen next.<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"8\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8,0,0\">If you see a ball thrown, your brain predicts the arc.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8,1,0\">If you hear &#8220;Once upon a&#8230;&#8221;, your brain predicts &#8220;time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9\">This is great for catching baseballs. It is terrible for leadership.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\"><b data-path-to-node=\"10\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Google Auto-Complete Trap<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\">In conversation, most people operate like Google Search in 2010. As soon as the other person types &#8220;How to&#8230;&#8221;, your brain flashes 5 guesses:<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"11\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11,0,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"11,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">&#8220;How to make money&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11,1,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"11,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">&#8220;How to fix a car&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11,2,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"11,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">&#8220;How to fire someone&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12\">You stop listening to the <i data-path-to-node=\"12\" data-index-in-node=\"26\">actual<\/i> input because you are too busy admiring your own prediction. You interrupt: <i data-path-to-node=\"12\" data-index-in-node=\"109\">&#8220;Oh, you want to know about firing? Here is my advice&#8230;&#8221;<\/i> And the person says: <i data-path-to-node=\"12\" data-index-in-node=\"188\">&#8220;No, I was asking how to find the bathroom.&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13\"><b data-path-to-node=\"13\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Cost of &#8220;Smart&#8221; Listening<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13\">Smart people are the worst listeners. Because their processing speed is high, they think they have &#8220;solved&#8221; the sentence before it is finished. This is <b data-path-to-node=\"13\" data-index-in-node=\"182\">Arrogance disguised as Efficiency<\/b>. When you interrupt (or zone out), you signal:<\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\" data-path-to-node=\"14\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14,0,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"14,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">&#8220;I am faster than you.&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14,1,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"14,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">&#8220;My time is worth more than your thoughts.&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14,2,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"14,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">&#8220;I am not curious about you; I am only curious about my own brilliance.&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"15\"><b data-path-to-node=\"15\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Protocol: The 2-Second Buffer<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"15\">To disable the Auto-Complete, you must install a <b data-path-to-node=\"15\" data-index-in-node=\"83\">Latency Buffer<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"16\"><b data-path-to-node=\"16\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">1. The Physical Anchor<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"16\">When the other person stops speaking, do not speak. Take a physical breath. (Inhale&#8230; Exhale). Count to 2. <i data-path-to-node=\"16\" data-index-in-node=\"131\">Then<\/i> respond.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"17\"><b data-path-to-node=\"17\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">2. The Loopback Check<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"17\">Before you offer a solution, verify the input.<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"18\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"18,0,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"18,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">&#8220;So, if I understand correctly, you are worried about X because of Y. Is that right?&#8221;<\/i> If they say &#8220;Exactly,&#8221; you have permission to speak. If they say, &#8220;Well, not exactly,&#8221; you just saved yourself 20 minutes of solving the wrong problem.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"19\"><b data-path-to-node=\"19\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">#DhandheKaFunda:<\/b> <i data-path-to-node=\"19\" data-index-in-node=\"17\">The goal of listening is not to be the fastest to the answer.
