Thank you for your dedication!&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"7,2,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"7,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Result:<\/i> You just taught the entire company that <b data-path-to-node=\"7,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"48\">Chaos + Heroism = Praise.<\/b><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8\"><b data-path-to-node=\"8\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Problem with Heroes<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8\">A &#8220;Hero&#8221; is a symptom of a broken system. If Dave has to stay up until 2 AM, it means:<\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\" data-path-to-node=\"9\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9,0,0\">The code was bad.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9,1,0\">The testing process failed.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9,2,0\">The redundancy systems didn&#8217;t work.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10\">By praising Dave, you are ignoring the three failures. You are incentivizing people to let fires start so they can be seen putting them out.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11\"><b data-path-to-node=\"11\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Anti-Hero Protocol<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11\">In a High-Reliability Organization (like a Nuclear Power Plant), &#8220;Excitement&#8221; is bad. If a reactor operator has to be a &#8220;Hero,&#8221; someone is getting fired.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12\"><b data-path-to-node=\"12\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">1. The &#8220;Boring&#8221; KRA<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12\">Stop measuring &#8220;Escalations Solved.&#8221; Start measuring &#8220;Escalations Prevented.&#8221;<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"13\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13,0,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"13,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Bad Metric:<\/i> &#8220;Sales visits made&#8221; (Input\/Effort).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13,1,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"13,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Good Metric:<\/i> &#8220;Revenue per visit&#8221; (Efficiency).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13,2,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"13,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Bad Metric:<\/i> &#8220;Bugs fixed&#8221; (Cleaning up messes).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13,3,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"13,3,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Good Metric:<\/i> &#8220;Uptime&#8221; (Preventing messes).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14\"><b data-path-to-node=\"14\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">2. The Post-Incident Interrogation<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14\">When someone performs a heroic act, thank them privately, then ask publicly: <i data-path-to-node=\"14\" data-index-in-node=\"112\">&#8220;How do we ensure that you never have to do this again?&#8221;<\/i> If Dave is still fixing the same server crash in 6 months, Dave is not a hero. Dave is a bottleneck.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"15\"><b data-path-to-node=\"15\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">3. The Fire-Starter Test<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"15\">Watch out for the employee who constantly creates crises just to solve them. They thrive on adrenaline and validation. They are toxic to scale. Scale requires silence, not sirens.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"16\"><b data-path-to-node=\"16\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">#DhandheKaFunda:<\/b> <i data-path-to-node=\"16\" data-index-in-node=\"17\">A well-run business is boring.
