You receive complex requests from the &#8220;Strategic Layer&#8221; and translate them into simple instructions for the &#8220;Execution Layer.&#8221; Then, you take real-world feedback from the ground and translate it into insights for the top.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"13\">The Protocol for Managing Up (Strategy)<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14\"><b data-path-to-node=\"14\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">1. Demand Specificity<\/b> Never walk out of a meeting with a vague goal like &#8220;Improve user engagement.&#8221; Ask: <i data-path-to-node=\"14\" data-index-in-node=\"105\">&#8220;By what percentage? By what date? In which segment?&#8221;<\/i> If your boss can&#8217;t define the target, you can&#8217;t build the map.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"15\"><b data-path-to-node=\"15\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">2. Challenge the Premises<\/b> Your value isn&#8217;t just in doing the work; it&#8217;s in making sure the work is worth doing. Ask the tough questions: <i data-path-to-node=\"15\" data-index-in-node=\"137\">&#8220;Why is this a priority now? What are we saying &#8216;No&#8217; to by saying &#8216;Yes&#8217; to this?&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"16\"><b data-path-to-node=\"16\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">3. The Commit-and-Deliver Pact<\/b> Debate fiercely during the planning phase. But once the &#8220;Conclusion&#8221; is reached, stop the debate and start the delivery. Unity of action is more important than being right.<\/p>\n<h3 data-path-to-node=\"17\">The Protocol for Managing Down (Execution)<\/h3>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"18\"><b data-path-to-node=\"18\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">4. Define the &#8220;Outcome,&#8221; Not the &#8220;How&#8221;<\/b> Micromanagement is the hallmark of an insecure manager. Give your team high-resolution goals and the autonomy to find the path. Demand Excellence (The Filter)<\/b> As a manager, you are the guardian of the brand. If you tolerate &#8220;average&#8221; work, you are teaching your team that mediocrity is acceptable. Set the bar so high that it\u2019s uncomfortable, then provide the support to help them reach it.<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"20\"><b data-path-to-node=\"20\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">6. Trigger Discovery<\/b> Don&#8217;t give answers; give questions. Instead of &#8220;Do it this way,&#8221; ask: <i data-path-to-node=\"20\" data-index-in-node=\"91\">&#8220;How would we do this if we had half the time?&#8221;<\/i> or <i data-path-to-node=\"20\" data-index-in-node=\"142\">&#8220;What is the single point of failure in your current plan?&#8221;<\/i> Force your team to develop their own &#8220;Judgment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"21\"><b data-path-to-node=\"21\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">#DhandheKaFunda:<\/b> <i data-path-to-node=\"21\" data-index-in-node=\"17\">A manager&#8217;s success is measured by the silence of the machine.
