HR departments exist to smooth it over. Managers are trained to &#8220;resolve&#8221; it. This is a mistake. <b data-path-to-node=\"6\" data-index-in-node=\"149\">Peace is not the goal. Truth is the goal.<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"7\"><b data-path-to-node=\"7\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Trap of Artificial Harmony<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"7\">When a team agrees on everything, they are not &#8220;aligned.&#8221; They are <b data-path-to-node=\"7\" data-index-in-node=\"98\">scared<\/b>. They are suffering from <b data-path-to-node=\"7\" data-index-in-node=\"130\">Artificial Harmony<\/b>.<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"8\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8,0,0\">They nod in the meeting (Compliance).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"8,1,0\">They complain in the hallway (Reality). This creates a &#8220;Shadow Organization&#8221; where the real decisions happen at the water cooler, not the boardroom.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9\"><b data-path-to-node=\"9\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Dialectic Engine<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"9\">Great organizations (Intel, Bridgewater, Amazon) view conflict as an engine.<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"10\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"10,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Thesis<\/b> (Idea A) meets <b data-path-to-node=\"10,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"22\">Antithesis<\/b> (Idea B).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10,1,0\">The friction creates heat.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"10,2,0\">The heat forges <b data-path-to-node=\"10,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"16\">Synthesis<\/b> (Idea C &#8211; The Truth).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"11\">If you suppress the Antithesis to &#8220;keep the peace,&#8221; you never get to Synthesis. You stay stuck at Thesis (Mediocrity).<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12\"><b data-path-to-node=\"12\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Protocol: Design for Fight<\/b><\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"12\">You must engineer your meetings to encourage &#8220;Intellectual Combat&#8221; while banning &#8220;Social Combat.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"13\"><b data-path-to-node=\"13\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">1. Attack the Idea, Not the Person<\/b><\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"14\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14,0,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"14,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Bad Conflict:<\/i> &#8220;You are wrong.&#8221; (Attack on Ego).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14,1,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"14,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Good Conflict:<\/i> &#8220;That data point is weak.&#8221; (Attack on Object).<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"14,2,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"14,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Rule:<\/i> You can say an idea is &#8220;stupid,&#8221; but you can never call a person &#8220;stupid.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"15\"><b data-path-to-node=\"15\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">2. The Obligation to Dissent<\/b><\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"16\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"16,0,0\">In a Sovereign culture, silence is not agreement. Silence is negligence.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"16,1,0\">If you see a flaw and don&#8217;t speak up because you want to be &#8220;polite,&#8221; you are hurting the mission.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"16,2,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"16,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Rule:<\/i> &#8220;If you disagree and say nothing, you are fired.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"17\"><b data-path-to-node=\"17\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">3. The HIPPO Check (Highest Paid Person&#8217;s Opinion)<\/b><\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"18\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"18,0,0\">The Leader&#8217;s voice suppresses conflict.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"18,1,0\"><i data-path-to-node=\"18,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">The Rule:<\/i> The Leader speaks <b data-path-to-node=\"18,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"28\">last<\/b>. Let the friction happen first. If you speak first, you turn the team into a choir.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"19\"><b data-path-to-node=\"19\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">#DhandheKaFunda:<\/b> <i data-path-to-node=\"19\" data-index-in-node=\"17\">If two people agree on everything, one of them is unnecessary.
